Who is Kylian Mbappé?
Kylian Mbappé was born on 20 December 1998 in Bondy, a suburb northeast of Paris, to Wilfried Mbappé, a football coach of Cameroonian descent, and Fayza Lamari, a former handball player of Algerian descent. He joined his father's club, AS Bondy, at age six, before being selected for Clairefontaine, the French federation's elite youth academy, as a young teenager.
He signed with AS Monaco at 14 and made his senior debut in December 2015 at 16 years and 347 days old — the youngest player to appear for the club in Ligue 1. His breakout came in the 2016/17 season: 15 Ligue 1 goals and six more in a run to the Champions League semi-finals as Monaco won the league title, prompting a then-world-record teenage transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.
Over seven seasons at PSG he became the club's all-time leading scorer in all competitions, passing Edinson Cavani's long-standing record in 2023, before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. With France, Mbappé won the 2018 World Cup at 19 — becoming the youngest player to score in a World Cup final since Pelé — and has since added a Golden Boot at the 2022 tournament (runner-up) and a second, record-breaking Golden Boot at the 2026 World Cup, making him the only player in the tournament's history to win it twice. He is France's all-time leading goalscorer.
